Pop star Justin Timberlake has been charged with driving while intoxicated in the Hamptons, New York. The singer, known for his transition from boy band fame with *NSYNC to a successful solo career and acting, was reportedly stopped by police early Tuesday morning.
Timberlake was driving a 2025 BMW in Sag Harbor around 12:30 am when he allegedly drove past a stop sign and veered out of his lane. An officer who stopped him noticed signs of intoxication, as stated in court documents. The officer described Timberlake’s eyes as bloodshot and glassy, and noted a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Additionally, Timberlake exhibited slowed speech, unsteady movements, and poor performance on standardized field sobriety tests.
According to the court documents, Timberlake admitted to the officer that he had consumed one martini and was following friends home. After his arrest, Timberlake was taken to a police station in East Hampton where he refused to take a breath test.
The 43-year-old 10-time Grammy winner was arraigned in Sag Harbor and released without bond later on Tuesday morning. He faces a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated, with his next court appearance scheduled for July 26, according to the Suffolk County district attorney’s office.
Representatives for Timberlake, including his lawyer, have yet to respond to requests for comment from The Associated Press.
Despite his legal troubles, Timberlake is expected to continue with his scheduled performances. He has two upcoming shows in Chicago on Friday and Saturday, followed by concerts at New York’s Madison Square Garden on June 25 and 26.
