Tired of slicing or missing the center of the clubface? I’ve been testing out a tip from Alex Elliott Golf, and it’s made a huge difference in my drives.

Instead of lining up my clubface directly behind the ball like usual, I’ve started placing it slightly behind and out toward the toe at address. Sounds odd, right? But here’s why it works:

When you swing, centrifugal force naturally pulls the clubhead slightly outward. If you set up with the ball in the middle of the clubface, you might actually make contact closer to the heel—hello, dreaded slice. By lining up more toward the toe, the club naturally moves into the center at impact, leading to more consistent and straighter shots.

I’ve tested this throughout my round, and the results speak for themselves. My usual fade? Gone. Drives? Dead straight. It takes a little getting used to, but once it clicks, it’s a game-changer.

If you’re struggling with consistency off the tee, give it a shot. You might be surprised at how much better your ball striking gets.

Tried this before? Let me know how it worked for you!
