Yann Demange No Longer Directing Marvel Studios’ “Blade”Yann Demange No Longer Directing Marvel Studios’ “Blade”

Yann Demange has amicably parted ways with directing Marvel Studios’ “Blade,” The Wrap reports. Known for his work on “Lovecraft Country” and “Top Boy,” Demange is the second director to leave the project, following Bassam Tariq.

Marvel veteran writer Eric Pearson is currently working on the script, with previous drafts penned by Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto, and Michael Green. Mahershala Ali remains attached to star as the iconic half-human vampire hunter, and he is also in talks for the next “Jurassic World” film.

A Strategic Shift in Marvel’s Approach

Marvel Studios is prioritizing quality over quantity, reducing its film releases to two per year, which offers more time to perfect “Blade.” This project, initially announced at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, has faced numerous setbacks. However, Marvel is committed to ensuring that the film meets the high standards set by the original “Blade” trilogy.

The Legacy of “Blade”

The original “Blade” films, starring Wesley Snipes, were crucial in establishing Marvel’s cinematic presence. Stephen Norrington’s 1998 “Blade” was a significant success, grossing $131 million worldwide. It led to Guillermo del Toro’s acclaimed “Blade II” and David Goyer’s “Blade: Trinity,” although the latter received a lukewarm response. The character, created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, has a rich history in Marvel Comics, first appearing in 1973.

Upcoming Marvel Projects

In the meantime, Marvel’s next releases include “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Captain America: Brave New World,” “Thunderbolts,” and “Fantastic Four.” Despite the delays, “Blade” is still scheduled for release on November 7, 2025.
